Automagic is where car owners and car repair workshops in Estonia find each other without a round of phone calls. You describe what your car needs, and verified workshops in your region send you an offer: a price and a time. This guide walks through each step and what it means for you.
In short
- Enter your car's number plate.
- Choose what needs doing, or describe it in your own words.
- Publish the job.
- Compare the workshops' offers and choose one.
- The workshop you chose calls you to confirm the time.
- After the work, an entry lands in the vehicle's service history.
1. Enter the number plate
Start on the front page: type your car's number plate, for example 505 BXX. Automagic looks the vehicle up in the Estonian traffic register, and the make, model and year appear on their own. You don't need to remember the model year or the exact model name – the workshop sees the vehicle exactly as the register records it.
If the plate isn't found in the register, or the register isn't answering at that moment, you can still publish the job. The plate is then added to the job description, where the workshop will see it. If you don't have the number to hand, you can skip this step altogether.
2. Choose what needs doing
Next, choose the kind of work. The most common jobs are ready to pick:
- Oil change – engine oil and filter. Read more: oil change.
- Tyre change – a seasonal swap or new tyres. See: tyre change.
- Maintenance – a routine service, checks and fluids.
- Other – describe it in your own words, for example "the rear wiper doesn't work". For repairs, read: car repair.
In the details you can add anything the workshop should know: odd noises, warning lights that are on, or that you are bringing your own parts. You can also note a preferred time, such as "tomorrow morning", and choose the region where you want the work done. The more precisely you describe the job, the more precise the offer you get back.
3. Publish the job
To publish the job, create an account or sign in. Your phone number is added to the job when you publish it, but no workshop can see it yet. Published jobs are seen only by verified workshops that work in the region you chose. Regions are the areas around Estonia's bigger towns: every county centre, plus Narva.
"Verified" means the workshop registered with Automagic using the workshop code we gave it, and added its address and phone number before making offers. If a workshop's access is switched off, it no longer sees published jobs.
4. Compare the offers
Workshops look at your job and send an offer. Each offer includes:
- a price in euros – often a ballpark, because the exact amount is usually clear only once the car is on the lift;
- a proposed start time;
- a note in which the workshop explains what the price includes and how long the work takes;
- the workshop's name and address, so you can see how far you would need to drive.
Offers appear on your "My jobs" page, and you get a notification for each new one. You don't have to answer straight away. Several offers can stand at once, and a workshop can also withdraw its offer.
5. Choose a workshop – only it sees your phone number
When there is an offer that suits you, press "Accept". Two things happen at that moment: your phone number is shared only with the workshop you chose, and every other offer is declined. The other workshops never see your number and cannot call you. You can now see the chosen workshop's phone number, so you can get in touch yourself if needed.
That is the whole idea behind Automagic: you don't have to hand your number to ten workshops just to hear three prices.
6. The workshop calls you to confirm the time
The workshop you chose is notified that you accepted its offer, and it calls you to confirm the time. On that call you can also agree a different time or clarify what the work involves. After the call, the workshop puts the job in its calendar and the job is planned.
If the workshop has to cancel the job for any reason, you will see that on the job.
7. After the work: the service history stays with the car
When the work is done, the workshop completes the job in Automagic and fills in the service-book entry, just like in a paper service book: the date of service, the work done and the odometer reading. Once the job is completed the entry is locked – as if written in ink – and is no longer changed afterwards.
The service history belongs to the vehicle, not to the workshop or the owner. Entries from different workshops for the same car sit in one place and stay with the car when it is sold. You will find your cars and their jobs on the "My vehicles" page.
When you sell the car, you can hand its service history to the new owner. Email us at info@automagic.ee and the buyer gets a one-time 6-digit handover code that unlocks the vehicle's earlier service history. The handover is free and takes a few minutes, yet it is secure and in your control: the history passes on only when you want it to, and the code works once.
Do you run a workshop?
Automagic is also a calendar and work-management tool for workshops. See how it looks from the workshop's side: Automagic for workshops – a handbook. If you are curious how AI and automation already help in car repair, read our article on AI in car repair workshops.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to enter a number plate?
No. With the plate, the vehicle's details come from the register on their own, which makes the workshop's job easier, but you can publish the job without one. If the register has no data for the plate, the plate is simply added to the description.
Who can see my phone number?
Only the workshop whose offer you accept. Until then, workshops see your job without your phone number.
Is the offered price final?
An offer can be a ballpark. The exact price often becomes clear only once the workshop has seen the car. Agree the final amount on the call when the workshop rings you to confirm the time.
Which towns does Automagic cover?
You publish a job in one region. Regions are the areas around every county centre and Narva. Your job is seen only by verified workshops that have chosen that region.
Do I have to reply to an offer straight away?
No. Offers wait on your "My jobs" page, and you can compare them at your own pace before choosing. Bear in mind that a workshop may withdraw its offer in the meantime.
